Source Dusk Golem released a series of tweets on platform X yesterday (August 15, 2025) claiming that Resident Evil 9: Requiem will feature three playable characters: Grace Ashcroft, Leon S. Kennedy, and Grace’s mother, Alyssa Ashcroft.

Grace and Leon will serve as the main protagonists for the core story. Although Alyssa is deceased, she might be playable briefly in flashback missions.
Furthermore, the source states that Leon will play an extremely important role in this installment, potentially marking his last major appearance within the main canon timeline. The source specifically emphasized that Capcom, catering to long-time fans, intends for the game to feel more like Leon’s “swan song,” despite the significant roles of the other two protagonists.
The leaked information indicates that Resident Evil 9: Requiem is Capcom’s largest investment in the series to date, aiming to enhance player immersion and freedom. The game promises breakthroughs not only in story scale but also numerous gameplay innovations. These include combat mechanics inspired by The Last of Us, the addition of drivable vehicles, and larger-scale environments for exploration.
The story takes place several years after the events of Resident Evil 8: Village. Players will take on the role of the new protagonist, Grace Ashcroft, an FBI technical specialist, investigating a series of connected murders. During the investigation, they will confront unpredictable and mysterious monsters.
